ASSISTANT SOMMELIER - 1

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a young, dynamic sommelier eager to learn and develop in him/herself further, the intricacies of the profession. The scope of this opportunity is not just limited to the “regular” sommelier functions. Some of the highlights are:
  • An opportunity to work with an international wine list with more than 400 references from all over the world, with a special emphasis on Organic/biodynamic wines.
  • Be a part of exciting wine events like innovative wine dinners, wine tastings with Cheese, Chocolate etc for our guests on a regular basis.
  • An opportunity to meet and interact with some of the most well-known wine makers from all over the world, who are invited regularly, throughout the year,  to the resort to host special dinners with “their” wines.
  • Most of all, a rare opportunity to experience the unique Maldivian culture and way of life while working at one of the most exciting new 5 star resorts in the Indian Ocean.

The ideal candidate should:
  • Be able to discuss wines with guests and assist them in making appropriate selections, applying knowledge of wine regions, varietals and vintages.
  • Be able to properly serve the wines, decant them if needed, while being mindful of the correct service temperatures and the “Best Practices” of the company
  • Be proficient at food and wine pairing.
  • Be comfortable and well versed in public speaking, required to conduct wine tastings.
  • Be sales oriented and have the ability to ‘upsell’ at all times, without sacrificing the quality of service, which should be of the highest order at all times.
  • Be able to take care of correctly listing and delisting the wines on the wine list, ordering, liaising with suppliers especially in the absence of the head sommelier
  • Be ready to perform any other reasonable task(s) assigned by the head sommelier/F&B management.

Qualifications:                   
  • WSET Advanced Certificate
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a sommelier
  • English + another language – German/Italian/Spanish/French
  • Island Experience – Minimum 1 year
  • Asia Experience – minimum 1 year
